“Tape # 1” is a short story about hope in the face of what feels like the end of the world. After the third world war, the digital world vanishes - no internet, no mobile communication. People revert to analog devices, homemade stoves and candles. The world faces perpetual winter and bird and animals have disappeared - either extinct or consumed. An ol and ailing Master lives in an abandoned factory, in a small workshop where he repairs and invents makeshift electronic devices for the surviving city residents. One day, he finds a young and weakened stranger, who turns out to be one of the empaths born after the initial nuclear explosions. They possessed the ability to hear and reproduce memories. However, just as suddenly as they appeared, they disappeared. They are known as the “soloists”. The story unfolds over three days during the encounter between the main characters - the Master and the Soloist - becomes a meeting of Father and Son. The Master shows the Soloist that even among ruins there is hope if the memory of goodness lives on. The Soloist realizes this by reproducing the Master’s childhood memories.
